Born: 1988
Breeder: Sigrun Wallqvist, Sweden.

It was natural for us to contact Sigrun and Hans Wallqvist, Brigadoon kennels, when we were about to buy a bitch. We had spent a lot of time at ”Skeppsudden,” an idyllic place on the shores of the Lake Vänern, through all the years since we bought Brigadoon Chocolate Twister. ”Lill-stugan” used to be free when we came to stay, and Hans told us many instructive , and not at least funny stories of the dogs “behind” the glorious titles.

One early spring day in -88 Sigrun phones. Two weeks earlier there was a litter born with 11 puppies, and already then she considered them very promising. We had just bought the house here in Andebu, and had a few months redecoration ahead.

In mid May we traveled to Sigrun and Hans to have a look at the pups. It was a grand litter, and we spent hours studying the puppies. Our choice was finally little ”Scarlet”, a choice which has had an immense influence on our breeding.

We moved late in June, and were at last ready to bring Scarlet home. Hans had done a great job with her. She could swim like a fish, she retrieved, and answered the blow of the whistle.

Her show career started in -89, and won her first CC and BOB under Frank Kane at the age of 16 months.

In October the same year, at the age of 19 months, she had obtained the Norwegian Show Champion title, and a fantastic career had started for one of the most prolific winners among Norwegian springers.

Judge: Dodo Huntom Morgans

What made Scarlet very special as a show dog was her type, attitude and movements. Several British judges always placed her highly, with critiques saying ”an outstanding bitch”, ”quality bitch”, ”a lovely springer from any angle”, or ”a bitch who could win anywhere”.

There were lots of highlights in Scarlet’s life. She was BOB and group winner under Frank Kane at Sjølyst, the Norwegian Winner Show in -91. He had Scarlet under him on several occasions, and were among those who always placed her in the highest awards. He also made her BEST IN SHOW.

The same year, Scarlet won BOS under Richard Hughes in a large entry at the Swedish Spaniel- and Retriever Club’s special at Skokloster.

Scarlet’s last triumph was at the Norwegian Kennel Club’s international show at Biri in -96, where Tony Pascoe judged the breed and gave Scarlet BOB and Group 1. She ended up as reserve Best In Show and 2 Best In Show Veteran. She was then more than 8 years, indeed a very good achievement by an old lady. Pascoe had previously awarded Scarlet BOB at the Norwegian Kennel Club’s international show in Kristiansand in -92. Scarlet was as well Group 1.

Scarlet also performed her maternal duties during these years. Always very patient and never far away from her pups. She was back in show condition in no time, and could be back in the ring before the puppies were three months.

Four Champions! Scarlet with her daughter - grandchild
and great grandchild (Ellie, Pernille and Liz)

Scarlet was first brought to Gofield’s Gentle Jack, and we kept N UCh Nimblewhit Amusing Nature. She won 5 CCs in Norway and 1 in Sweden. Her litter brother Nimblewhit Jumping Jack Flash has 2 CCs.

Scarlet’s second litter was by LP Brigadoon Cloud’s Chanty . Here we kept the bitch Nimblewhit Chanty Blossom who was awarded 2 CCs. S VCh Nimblewhit Chanty Dream was sold to Lena Rollmar, Sweden and became foundation bitch at Demings kennels. She has 1 CC and is a Swedish Tracking Champion.

Scarlet’s third litter was by N UCh Inu-goya Highland Fling. The bitch Nimblewhit Eyecatcher went to Mona and Jan Ove Steinseth, Fortress kennels, and she has 2 CCs.

Scarlet’s last litter was to GB ShCh N DK UCh Chaigmarsh Orchid. We kept N UCh Nimblewhit Flower Power who has 5 CCs and 3 CACIBs, and his littersister N UCh Nimblewhit Scarlet Impact who has 3 CCs. Nimblewhit Violet at Diamond Queen went to Britt-Marie Karlsson, Diamond Queen kennels, Sweden.

Scarlet was a tremendous joy to own, of course as a show dog, but first and foremost because she was gentle and pleasant to live with. To us she also turned out to be a fantastic brood, and she has dominated our breeding for generations.

We lost Scarlet in -99, eleven years old
